Blockstream, a leading player in the bitcoin infrastructure space, has successfully raised $210 million in a convertible note financing round. The funding was spearheaded by Fulgur Ventures and is set to fuel the company’s initiatives to enhance its layer-2 technologies, expand mining operations, and grow its bitcoin treasury.

The funds will play a crucial role in advancing Blockstream’s layer-2 solutions, which include the Liquid and Lightning networks. These technologies are designed to alleviate scaling issues and improve data efficiency by operating on separate blockchains built atop the main bitcoin blockchain.

In a significant move for the company, Blockstream has appointed Michael Minkevich as its new Chief Operating Officer. Minkevich brings a wealth of experience from his previous role in product engineering at Luxoft, a prominent enterprise technology services firm.

“This latest fundraise represents a defining moment for Blockstream as we embark on a critical new phase of growth to further bridge the gap between bitcoin and the wider world of finance,” said Dr. Adam Back, Blockstream’s Co-Founder and CEO.

With this financing round, Blockstream is poised to enhance its impact on the bitcoin ecosystem, driving innovation and adoption in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. As the company looks to expand its offerings and strengthen its position, the future of bitcoin infrastructure appears brighter than ever.
