The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a significant investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles, following a tragic incident where a car equipped with Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology fatally struck a pedestrian.

This probe, initiated by the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), comes in response to four reported crashes involving Tesla vehicles that occurred in areas with reduced roadway visibility while FSD was activated.

The preliminary evaluation aims to determine whether FSD can effectively detect and react to challenging visibility conditions, raising important questions about the technology’s safety and reliability.

As the investigation unfolds, it highlights ongoing concerns about autonomous driving systems and their real-world performance in complex driving scenarios. Stay tuned for updates as regulators assess the future of FSD technology and its impact on road safety.
