Boeing is making leadership changes in its defense division as Ted Colbert exits as CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. The announcement, reported in a staff memo from new CEO Kelly Ortberg, comes at a pivotal moment for the company, which is facing significant issues including production delays and a troubled Starliner program.

Ortberg emphasized the need to restore customer trust and meet the high standards expected in the industry, stating, “At this critical juncture, our priority is to restore the trust of our customers.” Steve Parker, currently the chief operating officer of the division, will serve as acting CEO until a permanent replacement is appointed.

This leadership transition follows the recent uncrewed return of Boeing’s Starliner capsule, which concluded a challenging test flight to the International Space Station. The Starliner had launched on June 5 with NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams but encountered thruster issues, leading NASA to decide on an uncrewed return after prolonged evaluation.
