Blackstone is on the verge of finalizing a deal to acquire Australian data center group AirTrunk for approximately A$20 billion ($13.53 billion), including debt, Bloomberg News reported on Monday. The private equity giant has outmaneuvered competitors and is in the final stages of negotiations with AirTrunk’s current owners, Macquarie Group and Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments).
The deal puts Blackstone ahead of a consortium that included IFM, DigitalBridge, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Silver Lake Management. In 2020, Macquarie Asia Infrastructure Fund 2 (MAIF2) and PSP Investments acquired a significant stake in AirTrunk, valued around $3 billion. AirTrunk’s founder and CEO, Robin Khuda, is also an investor in the company.
