Coursera, in partnership with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), has announced that ten Professional Certificates from Google and IBM are now aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). This development marks a significant step towards integrating industry-recognized skills training with formal education systems in India.
The alignment of these certificates with NSQF introduces a new framework for universities and employers to acknowledge and award credits for industry-specific content. This move facilitates the transition from traditional academic pathways to competency-based learning, providing students with more flexible career development options.
The National Credit Framework (NCrF), established under the National Education Policy, supports credit accumulation across various learning modes. This allows students to earn credits for both academic and skill-based achievements, making it easier to alternate between different forms of education.
With the new alignment, learners can now transfer credits for Google and IBM Professional Certificates towards higher education degrees, paving the way for job-ready, digitally skilled graduates. According to Coursera’s Learner Outcome Report 2023, 21% of Indian learners who completed these entry-level Professional Certificates secured new job opportunities, while 32% experienced salary increases.
This initiative represents a pivotal shift towards integrating industry expertise into academic frameworks, enhancing the relevance of educational qualifications in the evolving job market.
