OIF 3

In a bid to enhance cultural awareness and linguistic skills among its diverse student body, Qatar Foundation (QF) has recently introduced a free Arabic language course named “Discover Arabic.” Aimed at both native and non-native speakers, the program is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the Arabic language and culture. This initiative reflects QF’s commitment to providing holistic education and promoting linguistic diversity within Education City.

Course Structure:

The Discover Arabic course spans the duration of the academic semester and is accessible to all university students within Education City. The curriculum incorporates a balanced blend of in-person and online instruction, catering to the diverse learning preferences of students. The course emphasizes the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, ensuring a comprehensive language learning experience.

Collaboration with the Translation and Interpreting Institute:

QF has collaborated with the Translation and Interpreting Institute, a part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Qatar Foundation’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), to develop and implement the Discover Arabic course. This collaboration ensures the course meets the highest academic standards and leverages the expertise of professionals in the field of language education.

Levels of Proficiency:

Recognizing the varying levels of proficiency among students, the Discover Arabic course accommodates learners at different stages of language development. Whether a complete beginner or an advanced learner seeking to refine their skills, the program is structured to meet the individual needs of each student. This inclusive approach aims to make the course accessible and beneficial to a wide range of participants.

Benefits for Native and Non-Native Speakers:

One notable aspect of the Discover Arabic course is its inclusivity, catering to both native Arabic speakers and those unfamiliar with the language. For native speakers, the course provides an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Arabic grammar, literature, and culture. Non-native speakers, on the other hand, stand to gain valuable language skills that can enhance their communication abilities and cultural competence.

Promoting Cultural Awareness:

In addition to language proficiency, the Discover Arabic course also places a strong emphasis on cultural awareness. Through the exploration of Arabic literature, traditions, and customs, students are exposed to the rich cultural heritage associated with the language. This holistic approach to language education aligns with QF’s broader mission of nurturing well-rounded individuals with a global perspective.

Qatar Foundation’s initiative to offer a free Arabic language course for its university students reflects its commitment to fostering linguistic diversity, cultural understanding, and academic excellence. The Discover Arabic course, developed in collaboration with the Translation and Interpreting Institute, provides a valuable opportunity for students to enhance their language skills while gaining insights into the rich tapestry of Arabic culture. As QF continues to prioritize comprehensive education, initiatives like these contribute to the development of a culturally aware and globally competent student body within Education City.
