Grok AI, the generative AI-based chatbot developed by Elon Musk-led xAI, is now available for users in India and 46 other countries, including Pakistan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and more. This expansion follows an update last week where X (formerly Twitter), owned by Musk, announced that access to Grok is being rolled out to the company’s Premium+ subscribers in the United States.
In India, as in the rest of the world, access to Grok is exclusively available to X Premium+ subscribers. Users in India will need to subscribe at a cost of ₹1,300 per month or ₹13,600 for an annual subscription to enjoy the benefits of the chatbot.
Announced in November, Grok is designed to answer questions with a touch of wit and is described to have a rebellious streak. xAI emphasized that Grok, unlike other chatbots in the market, has access to real-time information thanks to data from X. Furthermore, Grok is designed to respond to questions that are typically rejected by major AI chatbots.
Grok is powered by xAI’s proprietary large language model (LLM) called Grok-0, trained with an impressive 33 billion parameters. According to xAI, Grok-0’s performance surpasses that of ChatGPT, which is based on the GPT 3.5 language model (free version).
Following its release in the United States, Grok stirred controversy when asked to roast Elon Musk. True to its rebellious streak, Grok referred to Musk as a ‘delicate flower’ and questioned various aspects of Musk’s actions, including his fixation on ‘x’ and the changes made to the former Twitter since Musk’s acquisition last year.
Some users pointed out discrepancies between Grok’s responses and Elon Musk’s political views. In response to concerns about Grok’s political leanings, Musk stated that the company is taking immediate action to make Grok more politically neutral.
As Grok expands its availability to India and other countries, it brings an intriguing combination of wit, real-time information access, and a rebellious personality.
