According to recent reports from DigiTimes Asia, Apple is actively working on the second generation of its mixed-reality Vision Pro headset. The tech giant is currently in the process of formulating the production plan for this anticipated new lineup.

The upcoming Vision Pro lineup is expected to consist of four models, with one specifically targeting the high-end market, similar to the first-generation headset. The remaining headsets in the lineup are anticipated to offer a diverse range of features, catering to various needs while being more budget-friendly.

The report indicates that the Bill of Materials (BoM) for this cost-effective version is projected to be only 50 percent of that required for the first generation, potentially making it more accessible to a broader consumer base.

Sampling for the second generation of the Vision Pro headset is reportedly scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2024. If all goes as planned, this could pave the way for a potential launch in the latter half of 2025.

In addition to these developments, Apple is also said to be exploring the creation of AR glasses, similar to Meta’s Smart Glasses, which were unveiled earlier this year.

Notably, Apple analyst Mark Gurman recently reported a delay in the launch date for the first generation of the Vision Pro headset. Originally slated for January, it has now been pushed to March due to manufacturing challenges. Gurman mentioned in his Power On newsletter that Apple is working to finalize distribution plans and conduct further testing. Reports suggest that the intricate internal design of the Apple Vision Pro headset has led to significant adjustments in the production forecast.

It is anticipated that Apple will manufacture fewer than 400,000 units in 2024, with the initial launch focusing on the US market. The mixed-reality headset is expected to gradually expand its availability to other regions, with a global launch slated for the end of the same year.
