Vivo S16 series returns to the selfie plus beauty route – Engadget 中文版

The S15 series, which is obviously more performance-oriented than other phones in the same product line, seems to have failed to meet Vivo’s expectations in terms of sales. Therefore, in the successor model S16 series, we see that the manufacturer has returned to the familiar selfie-style line. This time, the design language of the new phone is more similar to the S12 of the previous generation, but the ring flash in the rear camera area plays a finishing touch on the shape, adding a bit of aura to the back of the phone. Among the several color schemes, the most eye-catching one must be “Yan Ruyu”. It can use photochromic technology to display light and dark blue colors, and with the smoked sapphire pattern on the “jade” glass, the overall look and feel is extremely elegant.

The similar-looking S16 and S16 Pro both weigh 182g and are as thin as 7.36mm. Compared with the S15 series, the “slimming” effect is very obvious, and it can be regarded as picking up the “signature” of the thin and light selfie camera of the Vivo S product line. Speaking of selfies, both new phones have a 50MP autofocus selfie camera hidden in the center opening, and the front micro-slit dual soft light that was canceled in the previous generation has also officially returned. The entire S16 series uses a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED screen with a resolution and refresh rate of FHD+ and 120Hz, respectively.

Like the S15, the S16 will still be equipped with Qualcomm’s sub-flagship chip Snapdragon 870 last year, while the Pro model will be upgraded from the previous MediaTek Dimensity 8100 to the Dimensity 8200. The RAM of the two uses LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 respectively, the storage is UFS 3.1, and a VC vapor chamber is also installed in the fuselage. Their batteries are both 4,600mAh and support 66W wired charging. The S16’s rear three-camera consists of a 64MP main camera (Samsung GW1P), an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro camera. On this basis, the Pro model will replace the main camera with a 50MP (Sony IMX766V). The better thing is that the main cameras on both sides will have optical anti-shake.

The Vivo S16 will be available in 8+128, 8+256, 12+256 and 12+512 configurations, with prices starting at RMB 2,499. The S16 Pro is available in 12+256 or 12+512, priced at RMB 3,299 and RMB 3,599 respectively. In addition to these two devices, the factory is also preparing a lower-positioned S16e. It will switch to a flat 120Hz AMOLED screen, a Samsung Exynos 1080 processor, and a 4,600mAh battery that supports 66W charging. The 50MP main camera behind it also has optical shock resistance, and the price starts at 2,099 yuan.
