The Red Magic 8 Pro series is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 gaming phone with a screen-to-body ratio of 93.7%

So far, the new phones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are basically positioned as mainstream flagships. With the unveiling of the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro series today, this Qualcomm’s highest-end chip has also begun to enter the e-sports mobile phone market. The brand-new Red Magic 8 Pro and 8 Pro+ have obvious changes compared with the previous generation design. Their lines have become quite square, the front and rear sides and the middle frame are all flattened, and the shading under the back glass has become more concise and neat. This time the color scheme is divided into black and transparent. The Pro and Pro+ models weigh 228g and 230g respectively, and the thickness is 8.9mm.

Both new phones are equipped with a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen produced by BOE, with a resolution of FHD+ and a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Its left and right borders are only 1.48mm wide, and with the under-screen camera solution inherited from the previous generation, it can achieve a screen-to-body ratio of up to 93.7%. The update rate and touch sampling rate of the panel are 120Hz and 960Hz respectively, and there are also two 520Hz touch shoulder keys on the side of the fuselage. The device has built-in dual X-axis linear motors, dual speakers on the top and bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Through Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound technology, it can also transmit up to 96kHz with matching wireless headphones, and the delay can be as low as 48ms.

It is worth mentioning that Nubia also stuffed a “Red Core R2” self-developed independent game chip into the new machine. Similar to the previous “Red Core 1”, it can also improve the touch, vibration, sound and light performance of the mobile phone. In order to ensure performance output, the entire system uses a cooling system based on VC liquid cooling, fans, and graphene, as well as LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The batteries of the Red Magic 8 Pro and 8 Pro+ are 6,000mAh and 5,000mAh respectively, and each supports 80W and 165W wired fast charging. The selfie cameras on both are 16MP, and the rear triple camera consists of a 50MP main camera (Samsung GN5), 8MP ultra-wide-angle and 2MP macro cameras.

Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro is available in 8+128, 8+256 and 12+256 configurations, starting at RMB 3,999. Pro+ has 12+256, 16+512 and 16+1TB models, and the asking price starts at RMB 5,199. The new machine will be the first to be pre-sold in mainland China from now on.
